This book explores the artistic world of Fahad Hajailan (1957–2018), a Saudi painter, poet, and teacher whose four-decade career unfolded between Bilbeis, Riyadh, and Jeddah. Centered on form and color, his practice examined the expressive possibilities of two-dimensional shapes and figures through abstraction and continual experimentation.

 

Best known for his female portraits, Hajailan’s work transitions from figurative subjects with double-colored cheeks and profound eyes to abstraction, where broad brushstrokes, geometric forms, and diffused fields of color suggest the female presence. His visual language finds a literary counterpart in his poetry, an essential and complementary element of his practice.
